New Biomass-to-Synthetic Fuel conversion process from
Sundrop (New Prod. & Tech.)
Louisville, Colorado
start-up Sundrop Fuels indicates it has developed a cleaner and more
efficient method to convert biomass into synthetic fuels using a solar
gasification process. According to the company, its process, being
demonstrated at a 1.5 ME thermal solar gasification facility in Colorado,
can produce twice the fuel per ton of biomass compared to conventional
biomass gasification systems. It uses technology originally developed by
University of Colorado Boulder Professor, Alan W. Weimer. (Source:

Algae Biotechnology available (New Prod. & Tech.)
Green Star Products, Inc.
and its associated consortium of companies indicate they will be auctioning
the U.S. licensing rights to their proprietary algae growth biotechnology
on September 9, 2010, in New York City. According to Green Star Products
President, Joseph LaStella, "This technology is not expensive and can
accelerate algae commercialization in a significantly short time frame. The
successful bidder will possess a significant advantage in an energy
industry that now has captured the attention of Wall Street and the
world." Additional auctions will be held in France and India later
this year; the Korean and Chinese rights have already been awarded.

$65,000 awarded to Idaho Biomass project (Funding)
Following up on a request
profiled in our March 1, 2010 edition, the City of Sandpoint, Idaho will
receive $65,000 for its proposed wood waste biomass cogeneration system at
the city's Airport Way industrial park. The project would use wood waste
including slash and logging debris from land-clearing operations, and
construction waste destined for landfills, to convert into fuel for power
and heat. The funds were awarded from the State Office of Energy Resources,
but fall short of the $250,000 originally requested. Paul Kjellander,
administrator of the Office of Energy Resources, said his agency wants to
see the completion of the Sandpoint project, which includes building an
energy grid to provide city-owned buildings as well as private businesses a
cheaper power source. "There may be more money to look at that
project," he said. (Source: Bonner County Daily Bee, March 9, 2010)
