Serious Energy Bringing Efficiency-as-a-Service to Market (Ind. Report)

Sunnyvale, California-headquartered Serious Energy is announcing a new service that hopes to clear those hurdles, and help speed up the rate at which building owners can undertake energy efficiency retrofits -- a move that can save significant cash flow as well as make a dent in the nation's carbon footprint.

SeriousCapital, a unit of Serious Energy, is launching an energy-efficiency-as-a-service offering that will offer building energy upgrades at zero cost to owners. Serious will use its energy management software to evaluate opportunities for energy efficiency in a building, then will take over payments of the building's utility bill while upgrading windows and becoming the building energy management system. The energy savings from the efficiency upgrades will then pay for the retrofit itself, as well as the discount that customers get for signing on with SeriousCapital. Energy Focus Earns DesignLights™ Listing (Ind. Report)

Energy-efficient lighting technologies specialist Energy Focus Inc. has achieved DesignLights Consortium (DLC) listing for its LED Retrofit Kit qualifying it for energy use reduction rebates offered by member utilities. With Energy Focus' LED retrofit kit energy use can be reduced drastically. For example, when used to replace HID bulbs in existing building "Wallpack" fixtures energy savings can exceed 180 watts. Energy Focus is based in Solon, Ohio.

Energy Focus' LED Retrofit Kit utilizes a single Bridgelux high output LED array in combination with EFOI's patented heat dissipation system. It can be used to retrofit a multitude of existing fixtures including Wallpack luminaries used to illuminate building facades, "Shoebox" fixtures found in Gas stations canopies as well as overhead parking garage fixtures. The DesignLights Consortium is a collaboration of utility companies and regional energy efficiency organizations committed to raising awareness of the benefits of efficient lighting in commercial buildings. TXU Energy to Power Irving Convention Center (Ind. Report)

The Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas, Texas, one of the most energy-efficient convention facilities in North America, has selected TXU Energy to provide a green electricity plan that complements the facility's extreme energy efficiency. The Irving Convention Center will purchase 100 percent Green-e Certified Renewable Energy produced in Texas. Under the contract with TXU Energy, the center also is eligible for Brighten GreenBack, an energy-saving solution from TXU Energy that offers rebates on future energy-efficiency initiatives. The program can pay for electric vehicles and charging stations or for further energy-efficiency upgrades.

Unlike typical convention centers -- horizontal big boxes with delivery bays -- the Irving Convention Center features a unique stacked layout that allows the building to simultaneously host sporting events, corporate and trade meetings, and civic functions. The center's vertical form creates maximum useable space in a minimum footprint that is self-shading. The project is registered for LEED certification with the U.S. Green Building Council. "The Irving Convention Center has taken a bold direction that is a visual masterpiece and a world-class example of energy-efficient architecture," said Gabe Castro, vice president of business markets for TXU Energy.
